Skopelos Island is a true gem nestled in the Aegean Sea. With its picturesque landscapes, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage, Skopelos offers an unforgettable experience for every traveler. We could say that combines the green of the Ionian islands and the Cyclades whites houses.

Skopelos island is considered one of the Mediterranean’s greenest islands since more than 80% is covered by virgin pine forests. Even so though it only became widely known because of the famous “Mama Mia” movie musical starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan!

In this post, we wrote down our notes from our six days trip regarding what you can do in Skopelos. We created a separate post though about where to stay and how to reach this beautiful island

1. Discover Pristine Beaches

Skopelos Island is renowned for its stunning coastline adorned with picturesque beaches. Start your beach-hopping adventure at the mesmerizing Stafilos Beach, where the crystal-clear, emerald-green waters invite you for a refreshing swim.

Being a sparsely populated island, such as Milos, Skopelos which gives you the opportunity to enjoy many places with full privacy! We never imagined that we would have a 500 meters beach, Chovolo, with tirquase water entire for ourselves!

Continue your journey to Velanio Beach, accessible through a short hike in a fragrant pine forest. This secluded oasis offers tranquility and natural beauty. Milia Beach is another must-visit spot with its pebbled shores and azure waters. Finally, immerse yourself in the serene ambiance of Panormos Beach, where golden sands and gentle waves create the perfect setting for relaxation.

2. Explore Charming Villages

Skopelos Island is home to charming villages, each offering a unique glimpse into the island’s authentic character. Begin exploring Skopelos Town, the island’s capital and a true architectural gem. Lose yourself in the narrow alleys adorned with bougainvillea, discover hidden squares, and admire the stunning views from the ancient Venetian Castle.

In Glossa, experience a traditional Greek village with its white-washed houses and panoramic vistas. Loutraki, a quaint fishing village, provides a serene escape, while Elios offers a blend of natural beauty and laid-back charm.

3. Immerse Yourself in Natural Beauty

Skopelos Island boasts an unspoiled natural beauty that is sure to captivate outdoor enthusiasts. With no exaggeration, the nature here reminded us of our recent trip to Epirus and Vikos Gorge. Lace up your hiking boots and embark on a scenic journey to Mount Palouki, the highest peak on the island. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

Explore the island’s dense forests, where fragrant olive groves and vibrant wildflowers create a captivating tapestry of colors. Discover hidden waterfalls such as the enchanting Agnontas Waterfall, where you can cool off in its crystal-clear pools.

For a unique experience, take a boat tour to the nearby Marine Park of Alonissos, a protected area that offers a glimpse into the rich marine ecosystem of the region something that unfortunately we didn’t have time to experience.

4. Indulge in Local Cuisine and Wine

Skopelos Island is a paradise for food lovers, offering a delectable array of traditional Greek dishes and locally produced wines. Delight your taste buds with classic Greek delicacies such as moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh seafood caught by skilled local fishermen.

Don’t miss the opportunity to savor the island’s famous “Skopelitiki Tyropita,” a savory cheese pie that showcases the island’s culinary heritage. The perfect place is the Lethe Bohemian coffee place in Skopelos’ port.

For an unforgettable dining experience with an amazing view, modern Greek cuisine and a wide selection of wines is the Agnanti in Glossa! Do not forget to order the Shrimps “Kadaifi”, Skopelitian Style Dakos, Feta with Nektar of Samos, Kritharoto, and “Tagliatelles” of Kalamari!

5. Hiking to the Pig Lighthouse in Skopelos

This exhilarating trail promises beautiful panoramic views and an immersive experience with nature. As you trek through the island’s pine forest, you’ll be greeted by awe-inspiring vistas of the azure Aegean Sea and the verdant coastline.

The hike to Pig Lighthouse showcases the island’s natural beauty, with its fragrant pine forests and vibrant wildflowers. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast, this trail offers a rewarding journey. Alternatively, you may choose to drive to the watchtower as we did 😃😃! The last 3-4 kilometers are part of dirt road but if we did it with our rented Nissan Micra you can do it as well!

6. Follow the Mamma Mia! Trail

Skopelos Island gained international fame as a filming location for the beloved movie “Mamma Mia!” Fans of the film can embark on a nostalgic journey to discover iconic spots that graced the silver screen.
